July Newsletter and Offer from Helen Read

July 2011 Newsletter

Dear ____,

It has been a long time since I've written!   Time flies... when you are busy!   It has been a very busy spring and beginning to summer here in Wheaton.  I'm sure that's not unusual, but it seems like time has just evaporated!
Just a quick update on life as I know it ~ the spring semester finished in early June.  I brought home quite a bit of work this summer because of some changes to some of my classes and also a whole new class that I've never taught before (fashion design).
That should be interesting!

I also took a 2 week grad class immediately after the semester was over, and have another one starting next week. And, of course, there are family things going on.  I'm taking some time to slow down and rest, as well as trying to paint daily.  All in all, its a very busy summer time!  But, its wonderful to be in the midst of summer!

Wet Paint! ~ My July Feature, Just off the Easel!
Coastal Road ~ Isle of Jersey
Coastal Road, 5x7" Acrylic on canvas, ©2011, Helen Read
This painting was done in an entirely new way (for me).  I used the street view of Google maps and participated in a "virtual paintout".  This location is from the Isle of Jersey in the English Channel along the east coast - along La Route de Sainte-Catherine.

Its Easy to Become a Collector!
For the month of July this painting is being offered for $30.00!
I'm trying something a little bit new!  At the beginning of the month I will be offering a new painting ~ fresh off the easel for a "Featured Painting Price", which is much lower than the price I usually receive for my work.  I'm hoping by doing this that it will become something you look forward to seeing and that perhaps, in our rather sluggish economy, it will make it possible to purchase.   If the painting sells, it will be sent to its new home, if it does not, it will be available at the higher price starting in August.

There truly is something wonderful about owning an original work rather than a print.  The original works have much more vibrant color and the texture is so much more visible.

For more information about the painting, shipping costs, etc. and how to purchase it, please click here.

Keep watching to see what will be featured next!

Great Success!  4 Paintings sold for relief for Japan.
This spring, soon after the terrible earthquake and tsunami in Japan, I put some paintings up for auction to see what we might do to raise funds for relief work.  I'm pleased to say that 4 of my paintings were sold and 100% of the proceeds went to help those who were in such need.  These 4 paintings now live in Virginia, New York, Washington, and in Austria!  Thank you, once again, to those who participated!

More work recently off the easel!

Abstract 2
Untitled Abstract, 22 x 15", acrylic on paper, ©2011, Helen Read

I've been working with the idea of dots and circles some lately, creating abstract works.  The idea behind this one and several others I've finished recently is the creative work of the Holy Spirit.  As I've been reading more on the work of the Spirit, one aspect of it is life-giving creativity.  Reading in Genesis, you almost can't help but see the exuberance and joy behind his work - everything that he does seems to explode and erupt  into beauty and LIFE!  This is an interpretation of that idea.
Marbles drawing
Light and Reflection, approx 8 x 12" Colored Pencil on black paper, ©2011, Helen Read
This is a small drawing recently finished.  I was intrigued by the reflections and the light within these glass marbles. A bit of a challenge to capture and create that sense of light.  As an artist, its important to continue to find things to challenge my skills and powers of observation.  This one took some time, but it was fun to try to do!

A final thought for your summer time:
"...  I am convinced that nothing can separate us from the love of God.  Death can't, life can't. The angels can't, and demons can't.  Our fears for today and our worries for tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can't keep God's love away. Whether we are above the sky or in the deepest ocean, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus, our Lord."
